A Letter from the Co-Founders

May 1, 2018

To our beloved friends and community,

Three years ago…

We imagined a social enterprise where refugee, juvenile, and homeless youth get second chances.

We imagined a neighborhood coffee shop where everyone knew they could belong.

We imagined a drink menu that reflected the ethnic diversity of our community.

You’ve been with us from the start. You tasted our Cafe de Olla on early Saturday mornings at the local Farmer’s Market. You swung by our outdoor shop to order our Vietnamese Iced Coffee, even when the weather's blistering hot. You’ve always checked in with us to see how we’re doing. You’ve shown up to our friendraisers and given to our fundraisers. You’ve hung out with us in Tijuana on our cross-cultural coffee tours. You showed up.

You put your money where your mouth is. You’ve helped us launch and test our model: From startup equipment costs to program overhead to college scholarships to Pay It Forward’s. You’ve given us the privilege of being a part of your milestones: Weddings, sweet 16’s, and graduations.

And from the bottom of our hearts - thank you, thank you, thank you. Grace, Serina, Day, Eddie, Betel, and Rhoda - our strong, fierce, and intelligent employees couldn’t have done it without you. Oh yeah, we’ve given over a couple thousand cups of coffee & tea to those that couldn’t afford it.

So, what’s the big news? We formally secured a storefront off University Avenue in the heart of City Heights! We’re planning a soft opening this Spring and a grand opening later this Summer. With an indoor space, we’re able to expand our operations, deepen our impact of hiring and graduating more employees (30 youth every year), and host community events.

How can you partner with us? This May, we’re running a city-wide digital campaign to raise $90,000 to build out this storefront. You can learn more on our campaign page or you can start sharing our story with your friends.

We get to be in the business of reminding people of their God-given worth. We get to be a community of second chances. The horizon is wide open to make the impossible, possible - let's go chase it.

Yours,

David, Sterling, Lonny
